The Front Door
The Front Door is the way OPWDD connects you to the services you want and need. Once you enter, a person-centered planning process begins, which helps you learn about and access service options that take your needs and desires into consideration. Anyone who is interested in receiving OPWDD services must attend an information session to learn about supports and services. These information sessions outline the process of how you can become eligible for supports and services, the types of supports and services available and where you can go to get assistance. Registration for the Front Door Information Sessions is done locally through your Regional Office or voluntary agency provider.
The Eligibility Process
The eligibility process begins at one of OPWDD’s five Developmental Disability Regional Offices (DDROs) located throughout New York State. Your assigned Admissions Coordinator will help you through this process. The information you submit will be reviewed to see if your disability meets the requirements. If it meets the requirements, you are deemed eligible for OPWDD services. Please note that additional steps, such as enrolling in Medicaid, are needed to gain access to most supports and services.
